Being Crafty

Helena really enjoys doing "crafty" things.
Emily recently gifted her with a tea set she could
paint and decorate herself.

She had a great time doing it and the finished product
is quite cute!

Puppy Cake Assembly

This cake was actually not too difficult to assemble.
Emily started with two 9 X 13 white cakes.
After cooling, she removed them from the pans
and placed the pattern pieces on top.
Obviously these weren't hard to cut with just a
paring knife being needed, and the left-over scraps
were a definite bonus!

As the pieces were cut, she set them aside and then
began putting them in place on a platter.

Kristin got the unenviable job of frosting the puppy.
Have you ever tried to frost cut cake?…enough said.

The finished product!

Our puppy had raisin eyes and nose, an apple slice tongue,
and a carrot strip collar.

He was quite tasty, and James loved it!

Look Who Turned 8 Today!

It's hard to believe that James turned 8 today!!!

The girls made him a puppy cake.  (I'll try to post
the assembly pictures tomorrow.)

He blew out all eight candles with one blow.
Future brass player?  We'll see…

Happy Birthday, James!
We love you!

Trying to get a "Kids Only" Photo

This is what happens when you try to take a formal
picture in our family...

…in James's defense I have to say that it was quite
late and he had definitely had more than his share of sugar :}

Little Fix-it with Daddy

It's always something...

…this time James got to help Daddy replace the
heating element for the dryer.  We won't talk about
the four days I got to go to the laundromat…ugh!

Helena to the Rescue

Helena got to be the rescuer for this little bird.

It was a Common Yellowthroat, and was
the first time Helena witnessed a bird

Thankfully, this one didn't hit the window too
hard and was able to fly after only a few minutes.

My Favorite Kind of Hummer

We have such enjoyment from watching the
ruby throated humming birds that come to our feeders.

This feeder is attached to our family room window.
We get some amazing views of these little birds up close.

Our easy recipe for hummer food:
1/4 c sugar
1 c water
Mix ingredients, bring to boil while stirring, cool, and add to feeder :)

Time for Tea

As is customary when Nonnie comes to visit,
we had a tea party.  This year's sweet treats
were high-heeled shoes!

Emily began with a delicious lemon cupcake
recipe, vanilla frosting, and sugar sprinkles.

Next, she trimmed the tops and added
frosting "glue" for the sole.

Then she used a little more frosting "glue"
for the heels.

Time to decorate...

Helena got to help with this process--she picked out jelly beans and gummy rings to match each shoe.  Emily used frosting for more decor and because you can never have too much frosting, right?

The finished products

Meanwhile, Kristin assembled chicken quesadillas
for the main course.

It was a delicious and fun tea!
