Ah, Spring in the U.P.

We have to remind ourselves that spring is simply a time
of year that begins in March and ends in June.
It does not mean warm temperatures, green grass, or
flowers appearing necessarily.

We received a new blanket of white yesterday in the form
of a few new inches of snow.  It did a lot to cover up
the dirt on the mountains in the parking lots and even the
piles on the sides of our driveway.

In honor of spring, we're offering free snow!
We'd particularly like you to take it from the four
foot drift in our backyard :)

Stress Relief...

…for me.
A great stress reliever for me is listening to the girls
play together.  Sometimes they don't have time, but
when they do it's really wonderful!

This time it was cello/piano duets.

I'm really thankful for gracious daughters who will
sight-read something just so I can listen.  Knowing
this won't be possible for too much longer, I'm trying
to make sure I really appreciate it when it does. :)

A Little Music from the Littles

James and Helena gave Daddy a little recital
for his birthday.

It's so funny to see what faces you make when you're really concentrating.   It's also fun to see James end a piece with such flare :)

James did a good job with "O Come Little Children".

Helena finished Suzuki Flute Book 1 this week.
She played the whole book for us.
Great job, Helena!

A Belated Birthday

Bob's birthday had to be celebrated a bit late this year
due to a business trip.

Christopher, the photo bomber, always manages to
get in the picture despite our best efforts.

Emily and Kristin made their French silk creation.
Dad's favorite!

I'm not sure if James is trying for a bite, or the
last candle...

Yummy!  Another delicious birthday!

Flowers and Business Trips

The only nice thing about hubby's business trips--
the flowers that arrive when he is gone.
Thanks honey, they're beautiful!

Helena's First Flute Trio

Helena is getting the chance to play a flute trio
with one of Emily's other students.

Not bad for a first run through.
You'll have to excuse the bad picture.  I was
taping through the music room door :)

Fun with Clay

Clay is a fun, creative thing to play with before bed.

James likes to make animals.

He also likes to cut it ...

…and watch it float in the air!
(Haha, that was quite an amazing shot, Kristin!)

Last Snow?

It's possible we may have had our last snow of the season.
(not probable--just possible)

We definitely still have plenty since the level is above
the bedroom windows.  Helena and James were
enjoying being "taller" than Emily :)
Kristin came out to see some of
Helena's creations and helped her make some blocks.

Helena was doing some snow
masonry.  She built quite a
fort.

The snow moved out and the moon made its appearance
with a really bad picture taken by me :)
I'll figure this out some day :}

The next morning the sunrise was glorious,

and everything was frosty and beautiful!

Duets are always Fun!

It's always fun to play duets.

It's even more fun to play them with your teacher/sister :)
You can tell by his smile at the end that James
certainly thinks so.

Out of the Deep Freeze….

…back into the fluffy stuff :)

We've actually gotten above zero for several days
so now it's time for the snow to begin again.
Yippee!

More Skating Fun

Some of us went skating last night.

A little "encouragement" for Christopher
(Actually, they were playing tag.)

Benjamin is perfecting his balance

Emily brought along a family friend

Christopher helped Helena a bit while she was
venturing out from the wall.  Scary!
What a good big brother :)

The "Middles" are no longer Little

Our middle guys are growing so much lately that
Andrew has now surpassed me.

Christopher is not too far behind.
They are enjoying this immensely!
