Evening in the U.P.

It is so beautiful here in the evenings now.

I hate to admit that we even have a maple tree beginning
to turn its beautiful fall colors.

Nothing can top the grandeur of one of these sunsets.

Gearing Up for a Concert

Emily and Kristin are gearing up for their fall concert so...

…they did a little practice in a place where they
might find something from one of their pieces.
Amazingly, no creepy crawlies joined them during
their practice.

A New Favorite Game

We were given "Ticket to Ride" by some new friends
and it has definitely become the new favorite.

Such concentration--actually they're all probably
just hoping someone doesn't take their route :)

The Corner...

So we're around the corner and are actually
having gardening success!!!

It appears the zucchini are going to be quite prolific.

The other squashes are doing well too.

We have some beautiful rainbow chard almost
ready for picking.

Lots of blossoms on the peas have Helena very happy.
We're thankful for a what promises to be a good harvest :)

Garden Progress...

Remember the garden that Helena and Daddy planted?
It grew!!!

So far we've had enough warmth and less rain this
year so success seems to be right around the corner :)

Yard Work--Our Biggest Summertime Job

The 2015 yard crew has expanded to include
a total of five plus an occasional honorary member.

Benjamin is usually in charge of the hand mowing on the
house side of the creek.

Christopher, well, I have no comment for this.

Helena and James now help out the honorary
members with tasks just their size.  Here they are
loading the wheelbarrow with sticks bound for
the burn pit.  Matthew is in charge of the chipper.

Andrew has been doing a considerable amount of
hand mowing on the other side of the creek.  It's
a lot of work, but makes all of our property accessible.

For me, it is so enjoyable to walk the whole property
at the end of the day.  It's especially nice that I don't
have to be knee-deep in weeds or covered with ticks :)

Heading to Straits Band

Tuesday evenings in the summer generally finds us
heading down to Mackinaw City for Straits Band.

Unfortunately, we're usually pushing the time so everyone
ends up running in at the last minute prior to rehearsal...

Jonathan and Benjamin

   Andrew … Matthew

During rehearsal this week, the rest of us went down
to see the Coast Guard Ships.

The ice breaker Mackinaw and the Alder were there.  The Mackinaw is permanently moored in Mackinaw City for viewing, but we had never seen the Alder.

I also got this neat shot of one of the ferries heading
over to Mackinac Island.

We caught the tail end of the rehearsal, and
got to see Benjamin hunting for his music.
This can be tricky since they have all the music
in their folders for the entire season.

Pre-concert break usually brings Christopher to us for a request---
he wants to check on the Tigers' score.

Concert time and then…

Heading home with a beautiful sunset and tired little people.
