Weekend Concerts

Emily and Kristin had two private fund-raiser concerts
at our home this past weekend.  They were able to
provide their audience with an enjoyable evening
and raised the funds they needed for an upcoming trip.

The guys even got to participate in the evening festivities.
They got to move furniture!
Everyone  loves to move the piano ;}

It's Been a Little "Cool"

Growing up, one of my grandmothers never thought
the weather was just right.  It was either a little
warm (which could have meant 105˚) or a little cool.

So…it's been a little "cool".

The Amazing Eye

Matthew has been studying the eye in his anatomy
class this week.

He did a cow eye dissection to better visualize the
parts of the eye since they are so large in the cow.

Here he is showing his teacher the eye after he
finished removing all of the fat.  Sound fun?

Sir James

My Morning Warrior

James frequently gets up early in the morning.
(earlier than he is supposed to, actually)

This was the way he greeted me on
a recent morning :)

New Breakfast Helper

James has been learning some new tasks lately.

We usually start with a butter knife when teaching
how to begin cutting safely.

He did a pretty good job with the strawberries,
and Bob didn't even need to use his suturing skills!

Favorite Winter Game

Not that we really need an excuse, but a recent
surprise visitor was the perfect reason to start
a game of...

…round robin ping-pong.

Our Winter "Beach"

This is our U.P.-style winter beach.

You might find the "sand" to be a slightly
different texture if you're from a more southern clime :)

Weekend Skating

Helena got to go skating for the first time this past week.  She started out thinking the wall was the place to be :)

A little encouragement from Kristin later convinced her
to let go.

A little more time had her moving but still next to the wall.

Moving out onto the ice was
easier with a skate "helper".

Look at her now!  Go, Helena!!!

Benjamin decided the helpers were great for skating fast.

I'm not sure what to say about Matthew. Um…..

Ah, Matthew has managed to let the helper go.

It's interesting to see who goes skating each week.
It usually depends on who has the funds for admission
and skates that fit.  Details, details….

Happy Birthday to...

Lemon Meringue pie has always been my favorite, so the girls made it for my birthday.  I was hoping this year to blow all the candles out at once.  (I'm not a wind player so this hasn't usually happened for me.)  Well, I did a really good job.
I even managed to blow pink wax all over the top of the pie :(

Emily and I had a discussion about the best way to remove the wax without ruining the top of the pie.  In the end, I just used a fork, and I think we got most of it.  Perhaps next year I won't try so hard…

I was blessed with some thoughtful gifts from Bob  and the children.  It's always funny to see who didn't know what the gift was.  They usually come right over to check it out.

James and Helena had to come check out the gift they got me.
The children always pitch in and get something together, and
there's always someone who didn't get to see before it got wrapped.

We always have a fun time around the
table at birthdays.  The extra sugar provides
a little extra goofiness, and it's just really
fun to have everyone here together.
Jonathan even had the day off!
Happy Birthday to Me!

Science Lab Time

Matthew's science lab this past week was a
sheep brain dissection.

He wasn't bothered by the subject matter, but the artwork
(lab drawings) were not too fun.  Art has never been his thing.
The best thing was the lack of smell.
I was really dreading this, but there was literally no smell.
I guess they've changed a few things in 25 years :)
