Orchestra Rehearsal Pictures

This spring's orchestra concert is featuring some
chamber groups.  Emily, Kristin, and Matthew
are playing a Goetz Quintet.
(No, I have no explanation for the gigantic ladder in the
background.  Thankfully none of the orchestra members
tried to climb it!)

There are two full orchestra pieces so Emily gets to
play her flute and Jonathan is providing the percussion.

Christopher got to learn to play the French horn for
one piece.  He doesn't want to play it ever again!

We're very

very

very

serious

during rehearsal.
It's after we're done that things can get a little wild!

Happy 17 Matthew!

Today is Matthew's 17th birthday!
We celebrated with our traditional birthday meal.

Matthew is very serious about his food.

Hark, is there cake coming?

An emotional moment...

Matthew pronounces the cake delicious!
After bridge with Grandma, he went with Dad and a
couple brothers to the local bowling alley.
Hope you had a great birthday, Matthew!

Classic James

Okay, this is one of those rare posts without pictures,
but I didn't have one handy.
Bible study last night was finishing up a study of
Ecclesiastes, but Pastor had digressed into a discussion
of Psalm 23 which James has been learning.
We don't usually allow the younger ones to whisper to
us during the study, but Dad thought James might have
a comment about Psalm 23 since he was learning it so...

James leans over to Dad and whispers...
"Why doesn't Porky Pig have any pants?"

All I can say is, it's a good thing he didn't
say that to me.  My reaction probably wouldn't
have been as quiet.

Happy Easter!

Hope everyone had a blessed Easter!
After worship today, we were able to share
a wonderful fellowship time with some friends
from church.

Helena had a good time playing with these two cuties.

The girls and I especially enjoyed fellowshipping with
a good friend who didn't need a nap :)

Of course we had time for games with Grandma.

Emily made a delicious chocolate chip coffee cake
for breakfast...

...and Kristin made Easter basket brownie cupcakes.
Double Yum!!!

After fellowshipping, what Easter would be complete without...

...a snowball fight!
As you can see, this may not happen many more times this
spring.  We have actual grass, (okay mud), showing :)

The Trouble with Flute...

The trouble with playing a flute piece memorized is...

...what do you do with your eyes while you play?
This is Helena's third Suzuki flute piece.
It's amazing how fast you can learn when you
you get four lessons per week from your teacher!

Spring Just Might Be Coming to the U.P.

I have always enjoyed spring bulbs.
I especially like how hardy they are.

If there was ever any doubt about this,
the daffodils and tulips next to our house
have managed to find a little spot of sun.
We're eager for the first bloom!

Happy Birthday, Emily!

Today is Emily's 22nd birthday.  It
doesn't seem possible, but apparently
it is true.  I suppose my ever-increasing
amount of grey hair should be a tip-off :)

Kristin made the birthday lunch of pizza.  Yum!
(no comments about the dirty oven if you please)

Kristin also made the requested french silk cake/pie.
(okay, Emily made the whipped cream and the crust)
No, she didn't eat it all :}

As usual, James found a way to "ham it up".

Happy Birthday!

April Showers...U.P. Style

I know some of you think of April showers as rain, but
here in the U.P. it just may come in the form of snow.

Friday brought quite a snowstorm with temps close
to freezing and then dropping.  I'm not much of a
photographer so these pictures don't quite capture the
amount of snow coming down, but it was quite impressive.

Below, Christopher shows just how happy
he was doing his job :)

We've also been showered with blessings this past week.
Emily blessed the family this morning with one of
her luscious coffee cakes.  (There were no leftovers.)

We were blessed by a fun visit with a friend and her
adorable baby.

Finally, we had showers of giggles and laughter
during our Thursday family rehearsal.  It may not
have been the most productive, but it surely was fun!
Who started the laughs?  Why, James, of course!

We had finally gotten down to business and started rehearsing when...

...James started being silly.

We all thought it was funny and the playing soon
went downhill...

He ended up quite pleased with himself and
quit playing altogether.
