Guys in Hats

Two guys in hats...

James made a "H is for Hat" hat and...

Matthew graciously agreed to play cowboys with his younger brothers.
Perched atop his head is a child's cowboy hat.  Unfortunately it's black and apparently rather hard to see in the picture.  This is disappointing since it was really amusing.

The March 22nd "Evening of Music" Concert

Friday was our 6th "Evening of Music" concert.  I'll put video clips on later, but it was a great concert!
This picture is of the Schubert Fantasy Piano Duo.

Happy Spring...U.P. Style!

What did you do to celebrate the first day of spring?  Well, if you were in the U.P., you probably did something like this!

The five youngest had a great time sledding and throwing snowballs.

We actually only got about four more inches to add to our collection, but Marquette got 29!!

Once again, these pictures aren't "dark", it was just snowing that hard.  I haven't figured out how to compensate for that on our camera.
Happy Spring!

The "Big Guys" do Dinner-Gluten Free

Jonathan and Matthew have been studying about immigration to America.  In honor of some of our country's many immigrants, they made tonight's dinner with a collection of ethnic dishes.

Jonathan made "Hungarian Delight", which turned into a two-hour marathon.

He had to boil those cabbage leaves first...

...and boil more cabbage leaves...

..then he made the filling while Matthew made the "Greek Spinach Casserole" and "Irish Soda Bread".
We did eventually get to eat the dinner which was quite tasty:)
It was just an hour and a half late!

Gluten Free Irish Soda Bread:

3 1/2 c Br. Rice Flour
1/2 c Wh. Rice Flour
2 t Guar Gum
1 t Baking Soda
1 t Salt
14 oz Rice Milk (removing 2 T)
2 T lemon juice
Preheat Oven to 425.
Grease cake pan.
Combine all dry ingredients.  Add wet ingredients slowly just till mixed thoroughly.
Place dough on lightly floured surface and lightly flour dough for kneading.  Knead 3-4 times.
Form into round, flat shape and place in cake pan.  Score top of dough in cross pattern and bake for  approx. 45 min.  Put foil on the last 15 min. if becoming too brown.

A Miniature "Tea"

This past Sunday, a beautiful sunny day, Kristin planned a fun surprise for Helena.  While Helena watched, she got out her "old" doll toys so Helena could have a tea party with her dolls.

Helena with "Musetta" and "Vivian"

A candid shot...it was so fun to hear her conversation from in the hall!

It was also so wonderful to see the sun!!

Friday Night Brass

The Beckman Brass got to play for the Friday night recital.  Though we are still working on some stage nerves, it went much better this time.  Yeah!  Also on an extremely positive note, I finally figured out how to enlarge blogpost pictures.  This is important since Andrew was barely visible behind his tuba!

We managed to get a pretty good video of their performance.  They are playing a FlexBand arrangement of Black Forest Overture.

Future Pilots?

Since Matthew currently lacks the cash to get a real pilot's license, he decided to get the next best thing...

An R.C. Spitfire Mark IX

Of course, most people don't do "limbo" while flying, but most people aren't Matthew.
He is definitely unique!

Christopher couldn't be outdone by Matthew; that looked like way too much fun, so he bought a Champ.

This proves that in-flight, close-up pictures are quite difficult!

Trio Magnificat on WSOO...Almost

For the second time, the trio was asked to play live on the the "Gentleman George Show" on Radio Soo.  This is a program in the U.P. that airs on Saturday mornings.

It's a lot of work to get everything set up and ready to go.

Keyboard...

Assorted paraphernalia...

Sound check...

More sound checks...

Warming up...

Final sound check...

Finally it's time to play...or is it?  Just before time to go on the air, Gentleman George discovered he had no Internet connection so, after all that work, the program ended up being played for a live audience of a whopping 7!!  Oh well, those seven people enjoyed it and after lugging all that stuff through the snow, they were really thankful even a few people were there to listen.
